My interpretation of the Minister’s comment was that he wanted to encourage North Koreans to step out of isolationism by luring them with the potential benefits of an open economy.

People started flexing their wealth of knowledge about North Korea – how they hide the impoverished people from public – and attacking the Minister for “not seeing the truth”. I am not a massive fan of PAP, but incidents like this embarrass me, as a Singaporean, so much. Did people seriously think it was the right time for our minister to start lecturing and talking bad about North Korea when the summit was to be hosted in Singapore? There were many other incidents like this whereby Singaporeans attack the government for being “foolish”, when they themselves are either ignorant/ unclear about certain details of the issue at hand, or they are just against PAP & anything PAP says sounds wrong to them (cough cough taxi drivers). PAP is not the best government and we should always offer feedbacks to better things, but people’s indiscriminate rejection of their ideas and policies is what triggers me the most.
